Seventeen-year-old Adam McCollom is studying for his A’Levels at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College in Northwich. He’s hoping to study Medicine at university and volunteers for two hours each week at St Luke’s charity shop in Middlewich.

He said: “I really enjoy volunteering. It has helped with my communication skills as I work on the till and deal with customers. It’s a really rewarding job. Sometimes I have conversations with older people who come in who are perhaps a bit lonely and don’t really get to talk to people that much, so I really feel like I’m making a small difference.

“Volunteering is really worthwhile and better than sitting at home doing nothing. And if you are thinking of applying to uni then it can really help your application. It shows you are committed and a good person as well.”
