70-year-old George ‘Geordie’ Ramshaw, who has multiple myeloma, attended our Day Hospice for 12 weeks for symptom management and emotional support. He was also referred to our Befriending Service and Social Work team.

Geordie said: “I’ve gone through hell over the last three years and I didn’t think I would last much longer, but this place has changed my outlook on life. I wish I could come every week for the rest of my life.

“It’s absolutely brilliant and the people who look after you, the nurses and the social workers, are brilliant. They go out of their way to help. I’ve got them that high on a pedestal, they can’t get much higher in my opinion. I’m going to miss it. I look forward to it every week and it’s changed my world. I can’t fault the place.”

During lockdown, Geordie has been supported with regular phone calls from Day Hospice and our Befriending Service.
