Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the difficult decision was taken by the Hospice to temporarily stop visiting the people we befriend.
However, where possible, our team of amazing Volunteer Befrienders are keeping in touch with the person they befriend – by chatting over the telephone, WhatsApp, e-mail, texting and sending letters – helping the person they befriend feel connected and cared for.
We have continued to make new matches between patients and Volunteer Befrienders. Anybody who has been referred to the Befriending Service since March 2020 has been offered a Volunteer Telephone Befriender. Their Telephone Befriender will call them once or twice a week for a friendly chat.
If you feel a Telephone Befriender may be something you would benefit from please click here to find out about the criteria and referrals process for the Befriending Service.
As the restrictions are slowly easing, we are now in a positive position to plan to visit once again in outdoor spaces/gardens .The health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, volunteers and community is our priority at this time. We hope to be able to look at reinstating indoor Home Befriending visits later in 2020.
If you would like to discuss the Befriending Service please feel free to call Catherine Holligan on 07496073430 , leave a message and she will call you back (though this may not be on the same day- Catherine’s working days are Monday to Thursday).
