Here at St Luke’s we are proud to host Christie Clinics at the Hospice.
Launched in 2018, the clinics offer Christie patients the opportunity to receive the same chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal treatments and support that they would have at the main hospital in Manchester without the journey and the exhaustion this can bring.
The Christie Clinic operates every Friday from 8am to 4pm. They have five chemotherapy chairs which means their team of specialist nurses can deliver treatments to five patients at a time. The clinic treats all types of cancer and sees around 18 patients each day, the majority of which come from mid and south Cheshire.
Christie nurses and patients love coming to St Luke’s because of its calm and relaxed atmosphere. As the groups are small, patients and nurses are able to build a rapport with each other. There are no waiting times, there’s free parking and the Christie clinic have all the facilities they need at St Luke’s.
Patients are referred to St Luke’s via their consultant or they can self-refer and have their eligibility checked. Having the link between the Christie and St Luke’s means patients can also access other services offered by the Hospice, including complementary therapies, symptom control and counselling meaning that patients get an all round approach to their treatment and care.
