The staff at Payzone UK in Lostock Gralam have just handed St Luke’s a cheque for £12,390.25. But how did they do it?
Back in January last year, Payzone chose St Luke’s as their ‘Charity of the Year’ and embarked on a 12 month programme of fundraising activity that not only involved their staff, but also their customers, suppliers and the local community.
The activity started in February with a donation bag collection, which saw staff fill over 50 large bags with pre-loved clothes before they were sold through our charity shops. A well-attended Quiz Night the nearby Watermead pub in March was so successful, that a Race Night followed in May. Various workplace fundraising activities ran through the Spring and Summer, including raffles and bake sales and in July several members of staff took part in our annual 10-mile Midnight Walk through South Cheshire.
The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the Glitter Ball at the stunning Nunsmere Hall in September. The evening of glitz and glamour was a complete sell-out, with over 200 guests enjoying great food, live entertainment and dancing until the early hours.
But their support was much more about fundraising; In October, Payzone were undergoing an office refurbishment and kindly donated 8 mint-condition double cabinets to the Hospice, which have been put to very good use. In November we staged our inaugural ‘Bring a Pound to Work Day’ fundraising campaign, aimed at all workplaces across the area – and Payzone were among the first businesses to sign up.
The bumper sum of over £12,000 will be used to support patient care, helping local people and their families.
So what is Payzone’s secret? Well, some of their magic is done to their ‘Social Squad’ – a group of enthusiastic and dedicated staff members tasked with actively managing and promoting their local community and charity relationships. It is this investment in Corporate Social Responsibility that has helped to deliver such great results for St Luke’s.
