Cheshire’s most senior police officer is swapping her uniform for sequins to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice as she takes part in Strictly Learn to Dance.

Acting Chief Constable Janette McCormick is taking part in the charity’s fifth Strictly Learn to Dance event being held in March.

She’ll spend her spare time over the next three months training with her dance partner before hoping to wow the judges at the glamorous, annual fundraising event.

Acting Chief Constable McCormick said: “I am delighted and honoured to be taking part in Strictly Learn to Dance for St Luke’s Hospice.

“It is such a unique way to support seriously ill patients and their families to enable them to have access to extremely high quality palliative support and end-of-life care.

“This is all completely new to me so I really don’t know how I’ll feel once we start training but I am determined to give it my all to raise as much money as possible for the Hospice.”

St Luke’s Hospice approached Cheshire Constabulary to see if any officers would like to take part in next year’s event and was thrilled when Janette came forward.

Catherine Moore, Events Fundraiser, said: “We’re absolutely delighted the Chief Constable has agreed to take part. Not only do we have high hopes for her on the dance floor, but her profile will help to make this a great fundraising event.”

Each participant will be matched with an experienced dancer and will perform a dance selected for them by the tutors at Dance Bespoke, a dance school based in Sandbach. Each couple has to raise sponsorship for the event.

The event culminates in a glamorous evening held at Crewe Hall on Saturday 24th March. Guests will enjoy a two course dinner before watching the dance competition. A panel of judges will score the dances and prizes will be up for grabs including the judges’ choice for best technical performance, the audience vote and the best Strictly ‘journey’.

From January, the couples will spend ten weeks training every Sunday in Sandbach.

Tickets for the Strictly Learn to Dance event will go on sale in January with various packages available. If you want to donate to St Luke’s and follow Janette (and Kevin’s) journey please visit the Just Giving website.
