St Luke’s Hospice celebrated its 25th Anniversary on the 19 May and held a Summer Fair at the Civic Centre in Alsager, with entertainment and stalls selling a variety of crafts and gifts.

The first ever ‘Great Alsager Cake-Off also took place at the fair with the competition hotly contested. The winner of the overall star baker prize was Catrina Stoker with an incredible edible ‘Willy Wonka’ themed cake, containing multi-coloured sponge layers. Other winners in the sponge cake category were Rebecca Moore with a Raspberry and Vanilla Cake and Abbi Rigby with a strawberry sponge cake that was a chequerboard design inside.

Lorraine Standring was awarded first place in the decorated cupcakes category with beautiful Sunflower designs, the judges were particularly drawn to these as the Sunflower is an emblem for Hospices. It was a family affair for Lorraine as her daughter Sophie and son Adam also entered the children’s class and were awarded prizes also.

The overall winner of the Fairycakes category was Kathryn Steel with beautiful butterfly fairy cakes with edible glittery butterflies on the top!

Community fundraiser Jessica Wilkes-Reading said “The event raised £1,044 and it was wonderful to see so many local people coming to support the Hospice and help us celebrate 25 years of caring for people across Mid and South Cheshire. The cake-off was a fantastic success and we are putting plans in place to hold another competition in October.”
